WWE Abandon Huge New Kofi Kingston Storyline?

What did WWE have brewing for the former World Champion?

Little over two months after dropping his WWE Championship to Brock Lesnar, Kofi Kingston is back in SmackDown's tag ranks, with him and fellow New Day man Big E set to defend their belts against The Revival at this Sunday's TLC 2019 pay-per-view.

It has been a swift demotion for a popular star who took part in one of WWE's greatest ever babyface chase stories in KofiMania, though the past few months may have panned out differently if not for Xavier Woods' long-term injury.

Per Sportskeeda's Tom Colohue, WWE were on the verge of running a storyline that would've seen Kingston become the New Day's weak link. Colohue's source claims that Kofi "would lose matches and he'd do a lot of stuff to make you realise he's not actually okay. We're not talking heel turn or anything like that, he'd still be Kofi - he'd just be angry and out for revenge."

According to the writeup, these plans were abandoned when Woods got hurt.

An interesting proposition, certainly, though Kingston and E have been solid as a rock since becoming SmackDown Tag Team Champions. Let's see if they can keep it going at TLC.
