WWE And TNA: 7 Worst Moments Of The Week (Jan 29)
6. A Preemptive Miss
This match isn’t officially announced yet, and yet it’s still making my blood boil. This week rumors really started amping up about the possibility of A.J. Styles vs. Shane McMahon at WrestleMania, due to them appearing on Talking Smack together.
Here is what I'll politely say to that: Go away Shane! You’re not good in the ring. You never were. You hit one big spot in a match, and steal the spotlight from people that are far more deserving, and who could use the payday more than you. Go wrestle Steve Blackman in a rematch on the Mania pre-show, but anything more than that is way too much.
It's probably hopeless. Super Shane is back in full force. He got to be the first wrestler to really take down Braun Strowman at Survivor Series, and had the initial Goldberg and Lesnar program not gone so well, he would be taking on The Beast at Mania. That’s insanity! With Cena likely holding the SmackDown Title into the biggest event of the year, that leaves Styles without a big name opponent. The rumor mill suggests that Shane will graciously step up to the plate.
In Shane’s mind this all makes a lot of sense. Styles can get a good match out of pretty much anyone, so the owners' son can shuffle for a bit, throw terrible punches and then after 20 minutes fall off a giant hot dog cart or something and call it a night.
Keep in mind that his brother-in-law will also be taking a nice, cushy spot on the show despite not wrestling since last year’s Mania. Man, two 47 year-olds who never wrestle, and have close ties to the boss getting two of the best spots available. It is not 2000 anymore! But judging from Raw's main event, and the upcoming Mania, it's kind of hard to tell.
