The best way to get people excited for a top match at SummerSlam is to give us the match for free a few weeks earlier! Is that Vince McMahons new logic? John Cena vs. Seth Rollins was a solid match on Raw, but it felt like we didnt need to see it yet, much like Owens vs. Orton. The two just began their feud a couple weeks ago, and now they already showed us that one of the wrestlers is clearly superior to the other. Rollins could use some credibility, because the last few times he faced Cena he either lost cleanly, or won by cheating. With the two spending months apart, he could claim hes better than ever, figured Cena out, and we could have ourselves a little bit of a showdown at SummerSlam after a few weeks of hype. Or, we could end Raw with Rollins tapping out, and already get our fill of the match. As noted earlier, the WWE Network lost a couple hundred thousand subscribers during this most recent quarter. An easy fix is to create compelling, fresh matches that fans want to see, and then make them pay for it. Thats how wrestling has been done since its inception. So was not promoting Cena vs. Rollins even a week ahead of time really worth the slight ratings boost at the end of the show? Lets just do Undertaker vs. Brock next week, and have it end in a DQ, then Sting vs. Randy Orton the week after that. Because if WWE is going to recklessly continue throwing away money at the expense of near sighted and short term gains, then why not go all in?
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
