With the next NXT TakeOver event previously confirmed to take place on Valentine’s Day, the 14 February extravaganza has now been officially labelled NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day.

Not just is this upcoming special subtitled Vengeance Day, the show will also use the old logo from WWE’s Vengeance PPVs of yesteryear.

The first Vengeance event took place back in December 2001, which is the PPV where Chris Jericho defeated the Rock and ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin in the same night to become the first ever Undisputed Champion.

Following that debut edition of Vengeance, the event was moved to July and June dates up until it was removed from the WWE calendar after the 2007 outing for the PPV. There would be a one-off return in 2011 for Vengeance, though, where Alberto Del Rio retained the WWE Championship against John Cena in a Last Man Standing bout.

As for NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day, the only confirmed match for that show right now is NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai defending the gold against Mercedes Martinez and Toni Storm. It’s also expected that the finals of both the men and women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic will take place at Vengeance Day, too – while NXT Champion Finn Bálor seems destined to defend his title against Pete Dunne and/or Kyle O’Reilly.
