WWE Backlash 2020: Every Match Ranked From Worst To Best
1. Edge Vs. Randy Orton
Result: Orton scores the win after punting Edge in the head (44:45).
Rating: As unconvincing as the whole "Greatest Wrestling Match Ever" shtick was, this was a very strong main event, if you could get onboard with the sometimes distracting parlour tricks - namely the piped-in crowd noise and the ridiculous camera angles.
As a wrestling match, it was extremely entertaining, if naturally failing to leave up to the impossible standards of its label.
From the relentless appropriation of other wrestlers' finishers, to hearing Randy very audibly call Edge a "motherf**ker," it was consistently entertaining with great storytelling throughout.
Considering its epic length, it's impressive how well it sustained compared to the turgid slog that was their Last Man Standing match at WrestleMania. Did it need to be 45 minutes? No, but it was still consistently compelling regardless.
The screwy finish was a shame after such a competitive back-and-forth, but it was certainly in-line with Orton's character and organically sets up a rubber match - once Edge recovers from his reported tricep injury, that is. 8/10
