To anyone who isn't a flag-waving American, WWE's obsession with patriotism and creating a xenophobic image of the "foreign other" is nothing short of embarrassing, but worse than that, it's felt boring and played-out for at least two or three decades, so its continued use just feels eye-rollingly cheap.

This was a nothing match for all the non-Americans watching, a match so retrograde that it seemed to be bordering on self-parody.
