12. Cole And Saxton Made A Damn Fine Team
This is something that definitely shouldn't be allowed to pass any fan by: Cole and Saxton knocked it out of the park at Beast in the East. It was like returning to the purer commentary days of old - or the current commentary of NXT. There was no plugging of the WWE App, limited foreshadowing of the matches yet to come, no jabbering about unrelated nonsense (well, there was a mention of King Whats Up, but there no such thing as perfect in this cruel world), and without the manufactured hostility of JBL, or the banal 'quack quack' of Booker T, Cole was allowed to be knowledgable. The fact that there was no heel commentary did not hurt the event in the slightest. Saxon and Cole, who are used to being shouted over constantly on Raw and Smackdown, called the spots as they saw them, hyped the match they were watching and found time to drop mentions of historical things, like Y2J's history with Frontier Martial-arts Wrestling, or Neville's with Dragon Gate, or the fact that Cole correctly identified the Liontamer, rather than calling it a Boston Crab. Turns out when they don't have a producer screaming in their ear, both Saxton and Cole make a damn fine announce team. Time to let JBL go?
