WWE: Why The Big Show Should Not Main Event Survivor Series
Since The Authority angle started in WWE, nearly everyone in the roster has had a role to play. The Rhodes Family, Dolph Ziggler, the Usos, Daniel Bryan. Everyone in the company seems to have a role in this storyline, whether it'd be small or minor. However, few have had as big a role in this storyline than the 500lb veteran Big Show. Since returning just before Summerslam, The Big Show started off as the corporate lackey in the Authority with Triple H threatening to fire him if he stepped out of line. While it was sad to see shades of the blubbering Big Show from 2012 and the People Power Era, Show did play off his role rather well. With Stephanie McMahon's incredible speaking ability and presence in WWE, this storyline was a really good minor storyline branching off the main feud between Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton. All I hoped was that Show would be distanced away from the main event scene and left Orton feuding with Bryan among others. Did I get that? No. Instead, Show was selected to reluctantly assist Orton in the feud against the American Dragon. This would continue until Show found his way into the Battleground main event between Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton, where he knocked out both Orton and Bryan causing a no contest. Now this ending to Battleground flat-out disappointed me. It was just a shame that after 20+ minutes of Orton and Bryan beating the hell out of each other in the match it was a right hand from Show that put them both down for the count. Those punches were somehow more effective than any of the moves performed by Orton or Bryan? Not only that, but Show's involvement in the Bryan and Orton feud unnecessarily overshadowed their feud, especially when Show showed up in that semi-truck during the contract signing. After being fired by Stephanie McMahon after Battleground and multiple appearances on RAW despite being fired (which makes total sense, right?), Show was reinstated into WWE this Monday Night on RAW. And somehow, Show was given a WWE Championship match he truly didn't deserve. Seriously, there are plenty of guys in WWE that could have done with the WWE Championship match against Orton at Survivor Series. And it's not like Big Show won a number one contendership match or something. Why Show? Why someone who always seems to show up in world title matches in WWE, and nearly all of those matches results in him coming up short. Because quite honestly, Big Show's never really been in a strong position to take the title so why bother giving him a shot? I mean if he's in line for a run, fine. But considering Big Show's health and age, a future WWE Championship is not likely in my book. Also, Randy Orton has only just won the WWE Championship back, so it's not like Orton's going to drop it in his first outing (yeah he did drop the title to Bryan at Night of Champions a month after winning it, but that was only so the title can be vacated). Also, how does Big Show get a WWE Title match in what is supposed to be a big PPV, Survivor Series? I mean in the last couple of big PPVs (Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Summerslam), big matches with top stars were booked to fight for the title. Why spoil that run by having the BIG SHOW of all people going for it? And it's really not like Big Show and Randy Orton will put on a classic of a match are they? I mean after 3 PPVs with boring main events between Orton and Bryan, the WWE Universe at least deserve something of a good match. Sure, their Extreme Rules match was pretty decent, but that was a rare occasion that Big Show and Orton could deliver. The fact is their wrestling movesets are so dull that it's hard to luck forward for a match between the two, even if it is for the WWE Championship. Before you start to insinuate that I hate Big Show, I don't. Back in the day when he was an all-out monster, I loved him. But in this current generation of rosters, all I can see him doing is holding down up-and-coming superstars by being involved in the main-title feuds over and over. This match between Show and Orton is so unappealing to me for a main event that for the first time in a long time, the World Heavyweight Championship seems a more important and interesting champion. I mean what does that say when the WWE Champion is the biggest heel in WWE right now?
