WWE is bringing back The Great American Bash, attaching it to NXT for the second consecutive year.

As announced during last night's TakeOver: In Your House show, the Bash will take the form of an NXT television special, going down on Tuesday 6 July.

Last year's Great American Bash was the first time WWE had used the old WCW pay-per-view name since a one-off episode of SmackDown back in 2012. Prior to that, Vince McMahon's promotion used the show name for five consecutive years between 2004 and 2008, before rebranding it as The Bash in 2009. That remains the last time WWE has used it as a pay-per-view brand.

The GAB's history stretches all the way back to 1985, when its inaugural outing was headlined by a Dusty Rhodes vs. Tully Blanchard steel cage match for Jim Crockett Promotions.

Last year's NXT Great American Bash was a two-parter, with the second night headlined by Keith Lee defeating Adam Cole to become NXT Champion, having already walked in as the brand's North American Champion. This outcome was spoiled ahead of time, when a photo of Lee holding the belt aloft was leaked to the internet.
