WWE: Brock Lesnar's 10 Best Matches

9. vs. The Rock (SummerSlam 2002)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQCNW5V5wsg I remember the training videos leading up to this match as well as I remember the actual match because they were so masterful in terms of how they were done. They focused on each man's training style with Lesnar focusing on his power while Rock trained by focusing on his speed because the story was that he would have to use that to overcome the power of Lesnar. The pace of this one was really fast from the beginning. It was also one of the best PPVs ever in my opinion with a really hot crowd that was reacting to everything they did. Was it the best match technically? Not necessarily. Part of the problem was that everybody knew Lesnar was going to win, so the predictability was there. Lesnar was also pretty green by this point. Still, I thought it was really well done for the most part. There was a big spot in the match with The Rock putting Paul Heyman through the announce table. You don't see Heyman taking bumps like that very often. It added to the big time feeling of this match. Following Heyman going through the table, Rock gave Lesnar a Rock Bottom in the middle of the ring. Lesnar kicked out at two. The crowd chanted "Let's Go Lesnar" after that one even though he was the heel. Then Lesnar hit a Rock Bottom of his own for two. Following a Rock Spinebuster, Lesnar avoided the People's Elbow and after a few exchanges Lesnar was able to hit the F5 to win the match. Lesnar became the youngest WWE Champion ever (at the time) at the age of 25. "The Next Big Thing has arrived" yelled Michael Cole. He sure did. As good as this match was, it's a shame they never had another one. Lesnar improved a lot in 2003 and 2004 while Rock wasn't around WWE as much for them to have another match. Of course, now that both are back in WWE (in some way) it could happen again ten years after and both are much bigger draws than they were back then too.
