WWE Clash Of Champions 2020 Gets Soft Rebrand

Does it mean anything or is it just a flashy name?

WWE rebranded the upcoming Clash Of Champions pay-per-view on Friday's episode of SmackDown.

No, they didn't poach WCW's old Clash Of The Champions moniker. Instead, Michael Cole hyped the 27 September show up by calling it Clash Of Champions: Gold Rush. Later, WWE's official Twitter account promoted SmackDown's main event Fatal-4-Way as the "Gold Rush" too.

So, what does this all mean?

Unless the company plan to change direction on Jey Uso's number one contendership status, then the new subtitle won't be linked to Roman Reigns' Universal Title. Randy Orton vs. Drew McIntyre for the WWE Title is also locked in for the pay-per-view.

Maybe it doesn't actually mean anything and WWE just wanted to give Clash Of Champions a fancy tagline like they did with 'The Horror Show At Extreme Rules' in July. That could be it.

Alternatively, perhaps the company do have something in mind to make use of the Gold Rush add on. That name has been used for tournaments before - might Clash Of Champions feature some sort of mini-tourney for another belt? The Intercontinental Title, maybe?

That's all just guesswork for now.
