9. Money In The Bank Contract Signing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JazCKp_6beo Let's take a break from Punk's love life for a minute and focus on some behind-the-curtain stuff. Summer 2011 was dubbed 'The Summer Of Punk,' and rightly so. This really was Punk's year, as showcased by his 'I'm walking out storyline.' As it turned out, though, that storyline was much more documentary than fiction. In what was perhaps a massive error on the part of the WWE, CM Punk's contract was due to expire at midnight on July 17th 2011. The same night as WWE's second Money In The Bank pay-per-view. Punk was booked to battle John Cena for Cena's WWE Championship, with the outcome only being decided at the last possible minute. Leading up to MITB, Punk had been telling anyone who would listen that he would be leaving with the WWE title, and maybe even defending it in Ring Of Honour. This was of course part of a work on the company's part the payoff though, would be huge. As it turned out, Punk decided to re-sign with the WWE during the pay-per-view itself when Vince McMahon came up with an offer that Punk, reportedly, couldn't refuse. Punk ended up winning the title and 'leaving the company' for a few weeks before triumphantly returning to once again fight John Cena. Although it might not be as dramatic as punching a fan in the face, in the annals on professional wrestling history, Money In The Bank 2011 will forever be remembered as the night that CM Punk almost beat the WWE at their own game.
