WWE announced on SmackDown that Daniel Bryan will challenge Sami Zayn for the Intercontinental Title at WrestleMania 36.

Bryan helped new pal Drew Gulak beat old IC Champ Shinsuke Nakamura as an exasperated Sami Zayn (who was providing some rather nifty guest commentary) looked on. The company didn't acknowledge that D-Bry and Gulak effectively cheated to get the win despite being clear babyfaces.

Some of Zayn's own medicine, perhaps?

Zayn vs. Bryan looks like it'll be one of 'Mania's bright spots across both nights next Saturday and Sunday. It has the makings to be one of the best Intercontinental Title battles at the show in years, and it could be a sleeper hit on either night one or two.

To that point, there's no confirmation of card placement for the match yet. However, a Bryan title win could be a nice launching point for the entire weekend as a whole.

There's serious juice to Bryan's tag-team with Gulak, and the prospect of a turn and rivalry between both men later in the year is similarly tasty.

For now, Gulak will watch with everyone else as Dan chases gold.
