WWE DENY Enzo Amore & Big Cass NXT Return Reports

Are WWE being truthful, or just covering their tracks?

Yesterday brought the sensational and totally unexpected news that WWE had reached out to Enzo Amore and Big Cass regarding a return to NXT. This story has now been rubbished by the promotion itself only a few hours after breaking.

Dave Meltzer, whose Wrestling Observer Newsletter first covered the scoop, tweeted the following:-

Pro Wrestling Sheet then followed up with a writeup claiming that WWE had told them "there's no truth to the report."

Enzo and Cass have since reacted to the story themselves:-

Those scamps.

A couple of potential scenarios emerge from this:-

1. Meltzer's original source fed him a load of nonsense, leading to his backtracking tweet.

2. WWE issued the denial to cover their tracks.

Both are perfectly conceivable, particularly the second one, as it's unlikely that WWE would confirm talks with Enzo and Cass and risk spoiling a potentially huge surprise. Regardless, the story was originally met with widespread disbelief given the circumstances of Enzo and Cass' WWE releases and NXT's evolution as a workrate-centric brand over the past few years.

It'll be interesting to see if anything more comes of this, but for now, take anything you hear with caution.
