WWE Doing Yet Another WWE Network Free Month In June
An air of desperation surrounds the WWE.
WWE are doing yet another free WWE Network month for new subscribers in June. This is following both April and May free months, with May in particular having a lot of hard sells to get subscribers signed up. WWE's decision to keep offering the Network for free is leading to speculation that the subscriber numbers are not good. The peak was 1.3 million subscribers around WrestleMania 31, but that number was always going to be untenable in the quieter spring months. A problem with the free Network strategy is that it is always going to have diminishing returns. At this point, any remotely interested fans would have surely signed up by now. There can't be that many new subscribers left to convert. It was a success last November, but there's now been months of the offer being available. What WWE would be better doing is just having a full policy of the first month free for new subscribers. Right now they just announce the free month right before the month starts, which stinks of desperation. From WWE's perspective, they clearly believe that there are a lot more fans out there. Sadly, they might have seriously overestimated just how popular pro wrestling is in 2015. If new fans didn't sign up for all the heavily pushed new content in May, there seems little chance of adding new subscribers in June.
