WWE World Heavyweight Championship in an Elimination Chamber Match: Randy Orton (c) vs. Daniel Bryan vs. John Cena vs. Cesaro vs. Christian vs. Sheamus
The late, great General Skandor Akbar once said: "Wrestling is dragons and dragon slayers." Those words should ring loud and clear for Daniel Bryan, in perhaps the most important match of his career, and an opportunity to headline WrestleMania 30. Although he was known for years as the "American Dragon," the roles are reversed in this case, and he is now the would-be dragon slayer against the practically invincible dragons known as Randy Orton and John Cena in the Elimination Chamber. Add to that, the threat of Sheamus, entering the Elimination Chamber for the third time, along with Elimination Chamber first-timers Christian and Cesaro. Can Bryan do it? The answer, I believe, is a resounding YES. Before the war even starts, though, Christian will likely be attacked backstage by an unknown assailant, as WWE Director of Operations, Kane -- in another blatant display of abuse of power -- interjects himself into the match, striking fear and trepidation into his Elimination Chamber opponents. Look for the Champion, Randy Orton and former United States Champion, Cesaro -- arguably WWE's strongest competitor, pound-for-pound -- to start things off once Bryan, Cena, Sheamus, and now Kane are locked in their pods. Speaking of "dragons," Cesaro is on fire, a legit powerhouse and a bona fide star who recently beat Orton clean in the ring on Smackdown. His stock is through the roof and Orton will feel it in the opening minutes of the bout as Cesaro knocks him on his can with European uppercuts and drop kicks, followed by a tilt-a-whirl back breaker. At the five-minute mark, Orton is left stunned and staggered trying to feel his way through the diabolical steel structure when the first pod opens to introduce Sheamus into the match. Both Orton and Cesaro will feel the wrath of the Celtic Warrior who attacks with running double axe handles, diving shoulder blocks, and 10 clubbing shots to the chest to each of his opponeents. But it will be Cesaro who once again gains the upperhand on Orton and Sheamus with delayed gutwrench suplexes and double foot stomps, just in time for the second pod to open. Enter John Cena who will have his working boots on, going toe-to-toe with Orton, Cesaro, and Sheamus. But like the legendary Dick Murdoch, Orton is highly resilient and knows how to dictate the pace of a match, even in the confines of an Elimination Chamber. Fighting back, the Viper begins to dominate Cena with a series of jumping knee drops and a well-timed rope hung DDT, while Cesaro and Sheamus battle outside the ring, slamming each other onto the platformed steel floor. Mayhem ensues as the bulletproof plexiglass of Kane's pod is smashed open when Sheamus Irish whips Cesaro into it with sickening force, allowing for the Big Red Machine to enter the match. Whether it was at pay-per-views like Survivor Series, New Year's Resolution, or No Way Out, Kane has always been a decisive element in the Elimination Chamber, and Sunday will be no different. Raking the faces of Sheamus and Cena into the unrelenting steel of the Chamber, Kane will unleash a full-on assault as Cesaro lies crumpled in the shattered pod, temporarily knocked out from the impact. As the minutes tick by, with just one pod left to be open, the Target Center audience reaches a fever pitch in anticipation of Daniel Bryan entering the Chamber. The "YES!" chants are deafening as the final pod opens as Bryan attacks Orton, pummeling him with kicks and multiple elbow strikes, while Kane, Cena, and Sheamus slug it out. Bryan's heavily bandaged shoulder, injured this week on RAW by Kane, will be quickly targeted by Orton, sly, heinous, and always the opportunist. Bryan has proven to be a hybrid, though, and this match will be no different as he adapts his style to the extreme level of violence we can expect in the Elimination Chamber, while fighting through the immense pain. It will be complete carnage as Kane chokeslams Cena and Sheamus, only to be nailed by Cesaro with a diving European uppercut, obviously weakened but back on his feet. Look for Cesaro to deliver his Cesaro Swing to Kane, before Orton makes the save and hits the RKO for the pin, making Cesaro the first participant to be eliminated. Not long after, Cena ducks a Brogue Kick from Sheamus, delivers the Attitude Adjustment and gets the three-count, eliminating the Celtic Warrior. Bryan then hits Kane with the high knee from the top rope onto the steel floor before throwing him back in the ring to lock on the YES Lock. Orton again makes the save, only to have Cena attack from the top rope with a diving leg drop bulldog on the Viper. Incapacitated by a missed suicide dive onto the steel floor, Bryan is knocked out just long enough for Orton and Kane to double team Cena. A chokeslam from Kane, followed by Orton's RKO will be too much for even Cena as he's pinned by the Viper, and eliminated from the Chamber. Though the odds are stacked against Bryan with just Orton and Kane left in the Chamber at the 35-minute mark, somehow, someway, he manages to evade their unrelenting attack, firing back with running big boots, front missile drops, and repeated shoots as the crowd roars, "YES! YES! YES!" In the end, it will be Kane who costs Orton the match when a flying clothesline intended for Bryan knocks the Viper senseless. Finishing Orton off with a running flying high knee to the face for the pin, Bryan follows up with the YES! Lock on Kane and makes him tap to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. The emotional Minneapolis crowd erupts into a mania few have ever witnessed as the "YES!" chant nearly blows the roof off the Elimination Chamber. Winner: Daniel Bryan, ushering in a new era in professional wrestling.
