WWE Evolution 2 Reportedly Taking Place Same Day As AEW All In Texas (WWE News)

The WWE Vs. AEW war is still raging.

In a familiar story, variations of which you will have read since 2019, WWE is apparently set to counter-programme a major AEW show.

Rumours are rife that a sequel to Evolution - one of the last great cult hits under the twilight years of Vince McMahon's creative - is set to happen. This news was broken by PWInsider; reportedly, the event will form a double header alongside the heavily rumoured Saturday Night's Main Event.

The All In PPV emanates from the Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas on Saturday, July 12. Naturally, this is the day on which SNME is purportedly set to take place. In what appeared to be an attempt to circumvent this expected WWE trick - or pure coincidence, who knows, eh? - AEW revealed that its biggest show of the year will start earlier at 2PM local time.

Fightful Select followed up on the report, with Sean Ross Sapp stressing that nothing is official, and nor have the talent he has spoken to heard anything about a mooted show beyond the same speculation that has found its way into online circles.

Two things are possible, if there's smoke to this fire: Evolution 2 takes place on Sunday July 13, sandwiching and squashing AEW coverage in the process, or it happens when All In does. The latter option is more of a logistical challenge, but not at all impossible.

To editorialise briefly, the original Evolution was a marketing tactic. Almost everything in professional wrestling is. The show was designed to celebrate WWE for promoting women's wrestling as much as it was a celebration of women's wrestling itself. Still, there was a certain romance to it, enhanced by how great the show was.

If in fact it happens on All In Texas weekend, Evolution 2 will feel less like a celebration, and more like a mean-spirited way of undermining the competition. If WWE cared so much about women's wrestling, why won't the promotion let the women have a night with all eyes on them?
