The Miz is a different kind of heel to the likes of Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. Those men rely on sheer brute strength and viciousness to be villains, whereas the movie star wannabe resorts to opportunistic tactics and using his trophy wife to come out on top.

His character is a straightforward one, but it works well for him. There's nothing wrong with cowardly heels when they're utilised properly, and Extreme Rules proved that. As Cesaro, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn all waged war with Miz for the Intercontinental Title, Maryse helped her man retain his title and leave with a twisted smile on his face.

Zayn hit his trademark Helluva Kick on Cesaro, before being pulled from the ring by Kevin Owens. Picking his moment, The Miz slid into the action and pinned the 'Swiss Superman' to pick up the win. Meanwhile, the announcers talked about how Miz had stolen his victory.

That kind of finish directly benefits The Miz, because it's the type of thing that fans have come to expect of his character.
