WWE Extreme Rules 2019: 5 Most Likely Outcomes

4. It Will Be More Extreme Than Past Offerings

As we've already mentioned, Extreme Rules tends to get criticised for the fact that it isn't all that extreme these days. The reason for this is, of course, down to company's lingering PG-rating that has spent the past decade preventing it from pushing the boundaries in the way that it once did.

While the watered-down approach is passable most of the time, an event like Extreme Rules obviously suffers, as it is annually fighting an uphill battle to prove that it can be extreme in a non-extreme era and, a lot of the time, it fails. That said, there's a strong possibility that this one will actually pull it off.

There has been a noticeable shift in the tone of WWE's programming recently. Braun Strowman's mowing down of Bobby Lashley through the Raw stage (and Corey Graves' unexpected "Holy Sh*t" on commentary) was the most extreme thing the red brand has done in years, while Kofi Kingston flipping his middle finger on SmackDown was also a welcome dose of attitude.

Though Eric Bischoff is yet to start on SmackDown, Heyman was said to be behind a lot of Raw's changes, and it's fitting that Extreme Rules should be the start of his era. It now presents the company with an opportunity to prove that, yes, the WWE Universe in for something a little bit more cutting-edge than usual.

At the very least, we should expect the Last Man Standing Match between Strowman and Lashley to give the event the edge-of-seat danger that it needs.
