WWE Extreme Rules 2019: 7 Things It Told Us About SummerSlam

There's fight in this old dog yet, unless the young pup puts him down...

One year on from being squashed flat by Braun Strowman in less than two minutes at the 2018 version, a certain Kevin Owens looks set for a much more high-profile SummerSlam 2019. Back then, comedy heel KO was more likely to literally get covered in crap from a porta-potty than he was to work an intense, satisfying brawl on pay-per-view. What a difference (almost) 12 months makes.

This time, Owens has his eyes set on something more, and he's not the only one on the roster who does.

Extreme Rules turned out to be a much better show than many anticipated, and it bridged the chasm between WrestleMania-SummerSlam better than any other 'in betweeny' pay-per-view has managed this year. It was slicker than Money In The Bank, more interesting than the limp Super Show Down, miles better than Stomping Grounds and sets the table nicely for SummerSlam.

WWE's hashtag for that event is #JoinTheParty. That's fitting, because 11 August could be cause for celebration. All going well, Owens, Drew McIntyre, Nikki Cross, Braun Strowman, Bray Wyatt and more may have an excellent night in Toronto next month...
