Speaking of traditions.

It's WWE booking 101 to make planned pay-per-view losers look strong before the big night. So, for example, Bianca Belair would logically retain her Raw Women's Title against Bayley because the heel and her Damage CTRL crew shone on the 'go home' episode beforehand.

Obviously, the promotion enjoys subverting those expectations occasionally by going the opposite route. That's exactly what they must do on Saturday night, because it's time for Bayley to take charge of the women's scene on Raw and for CTRL to become the belt collectors around these parts.

Dakota Kai and IYO SKY have the Women's Tag straps, and there's a pleasing symmetry to Bayley hoisting the Raw singles belt high above her head as the centrepiece. Think of it like this: Bayley's shocking SummerSlam return and union with Kai/SKY will lose some serious impact long-term if she's just jobbed out to Bianca at the first hurdle.

Belair can survive a loss. Bayley, arguably, cannot.
