WWE Great Balls Of Fire: 8 Things WWE Got Right
3. Headlining With Lesnar Vs. Joe
In order to make Samoa Joe look like he belonged at the top of the card in WWE, the promotion had to schedule his match to main event Great Balls Of Fire. Imagine how much it would've sucked to hear that Joe vs. Lesnar was going on right before the Ambulance Match, or if it had been stuck somewhere earlier in the card instead.
The outcome of the match wasn't as crucial as Joe being in a WWE pay-per-view headliner. That spot was vindication for his years of hard work to even get to this point, and he desperately needed his employers to come through for him and show some faith. Credit to WWE for doing exactly that, even when the Universal Title match only lasted around six minutes.
Now, Joe can crow about wrestling a title match main event with Brock Lesnar on pay-per-view, and that only makes him seem like a much bigger deal to fans. The temptation must have been real to headline with the Ambulance Match, so it's a good thing WWE ignored that idea.
