Gerald Brisco was amongst WWE's Black Wednesday releases on 15 April.

This has been confirmed by Dave Meltzer of Figure Four Online/The Wrestling Observer, who revealed on Monday evening that the 73-year-old was one of the previously unnamed staff members to be let go or furloughed by the promotion as part of its craven cost-cutting measures.

Brisco was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame back in 2008. He had been under the promotion's employ since signing alongside brother Jack in 1984, and served in a variety of different roles, from wrestler, to talent scout, to one of Vince McMahon's closest advisors. His release ties in with the report that age was a factor when WWE was considering who to cut and who to keep hold of.

Gerald's most recent onscreen triumph came in July 2019, when he briefly held the 24/7 Championship. One of the finest wrestlers of his generation, he famously discovered Brock Lesnar back when 'The Beast Incarnate' was a college wrestler and is credited for signing several over the company's biggest names over the past couple of decades, having found great success as a top talent scout.
