NXT TakeOver: The End... is now in the bag, and whilst the show itself was something of a mixed bag there seems little dispute over which was the best match. The NXT Tag Team Championship bout stole the show, but it was the surprising return to World Wrestling Entertainment after the match that represents the major talking point coming out of the show.

After two huge dudes laid waste to the dethroned American Alpha, none other than Paul Ellering wandered out on stage and beckoned the duo to the back, quite clearly establishing himself as the brains behind the impressive brawn of the newcomers.

Ellering made his name as the manager of the legendary Road Warriors, known as the Legion of Doom in the World Wrestling Federation, but he has been out of the company for over a decade. Ellering was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame alongside LOD in 2011, and his daughter Rachael recently made her NXT debut in a losing effort against Alexa Bliss.

In a world where true surprises are hard to come by, Paul Ellering turning up at TakeOver: The End... was a legitimate head-turner. Whatever the reasoning, it bodes well for the yet-to-be-named-onscreen Authors of Pain.
