WWE has big plans for Olympic wrestler Gable Steveson, who confirmed he had signed with the promotion on 4 September.

Per the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the idea of Steveson facing Brock Lesnar (who, like Gable, wrestled at the University of Minnesota) in a passing-of-the-torch match at a future WrestleMania has already been discussed. The duo share a number of connections, including Paul Heyman, who, alongside Lesnar, has served as one of Steveson's mentors since high school.

The write-up notes that WWE's long-term goal is to pair Steveson with Heyman in order to help facilitate his rise to stardom. In the meantime, WWE is setting up a remote training facility in Minneapolis so that the 21-year-old can train while finishing college.

Dave Meltzer brought additional details to the table on Wrestling Observer Radio, stating that Steveson will likely be pushed onto WWE's main roster quickly. The company will likely look to groom him for top spots upon going full-time as a pro wrestler in May 2022.

Steveson has already appeared on camera for WWE, featuring alongside fellow Olympic gold medalist Tamrya Mensah-Stock at SummerSlam 2021 last month. This came just two weeks after his defeat of Georgia's Geno Petriashvili to claim gold in the men's 125 kg freestyle wrestling division.
