Generally, the original idea for Hell In A Cell was to keep others out of the cage. Older fans will recall that this premise was overlooked during the very first Cell clash between Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker in 1997. Kane, making his debut, did rip the cage door off completely after all.

Chris Jericho didn't use that kind of brute strength, a cunning villain like Y2J isn't that kind of character. It was Kevin Owens, right in the middle of his WWE Universal Title defence against Seth Rollins, who paved the way for his pal to enter the Cell.

'Accidentally' using a fire extinguisher to temporarily blind the assigned referee, Owens sold his innocence expertly. This act forced another official to enter the ring and pull his colleague to safety, conveniently leaving the cage door ajar.

Seizing the moment, Jericho ran into the Cell and started locking the door behind him. The whole thing was set up incredibly well by KO and his Canadian chum. There was a logical vibe to the situation, rather than a forced one.
