The New Day re-captured tag-team gold and became SmackDown Tag Champs for the third time on the 21 August episode. Less than a month in, they're primed for a babyface challenge against the popular Rusev Day at Hell In A Cell. The likely outcome is a win for the pancake-loving titleholders.

Unless...

Rusev Day's popularity caught everyone by surprise when it happened, including WWE. They were happier to cast Rusev as a heel, not a happy babyface egged on by fans who adored the quirkier sides to his real-life personality and relationships with Aiden English and Lana. Booking a surprise win to capitalise on such fanfare wouldn't be out of character for WWE.

It happened recently with The B-Team on Raw, and the same for Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy before them too. They were the beneficiaries of short-term booking, so there's a slight chance Rusev and English will get the same opportunity as champs.
