WWE Hershey Live Event: 10 Interesting Observations
3. Ryback A Babyface?
Remember that time a few weeks back when Ryback walked out on Big Show and Kane, initiating a heel turn that would continue in the weeks that have followed as he poked fun at the size of United States champion Kalisto and set up a potential WrestleMania bout between them? Apparently that was all swept under the proverbial carpet Sunday night when The Big Guy battled "Prince Pretty" Tyler Breeze in singles competition. Ryback worked as a straight babyface, blowing through Breeze and finishing him off with Shellshocked. In between, he mocked the pretty boy nature of his opponent, called him "stupid" for insultingly slapping him and played to the audience. Any trace of the heel persona camouflaged. Why would WWE go to such an extent to confuse its audience, especially when the aforementioned Kalisto was also on the card? Should the company not be concerned with keeping up the storylines that play out on its television product or is that of no real concern at live events? A puzzling booking choice to be sure.
Erik Beaston is a freelance pro wrestling writer who likes long walks in the park, dandelions and has not quite figured out that this introduction is not for Match.com. He resides in Parts Unknown, where he hosts weekly cookouts with Kane, The Ultimate Warrior, Papa Shango and The Boogeyman. Be jealous.
