Karrion Kross' sub-two-minute loss to Jeff Hardy on last week's episode of WWE Raw was part of a bigger plan for the NXT Champion.

This is according to the Mat Man Pro Wrestling Podcast's Andrew Zarian, who sourced the following comment from somebody within WWE:-

"I don’t know why everyone is freaking out about this. It was just one step in the direction we have for Karrion Kross, and this is leading into something.”

Kross, who has been NXT Champion since April, was felled by Hardy when the veteran rolled him up and planted his feet on the ropes for extra leverage. A short post-match promo then saw Karrion claim that Jeff had made the biggest mistake of his life.

As reported by PWInsider's Mike Johnson, a planned rematch between Kross and Hardy has been scrapped from tonight's episode of Raw as Hardy has tested positive for COVID-19. Whether or not WWE has something else in mind for Kross remains unclear.

Though booked to lose on Raw, Kross re-imposed himself on the following night's NXT, delivering an unseen backstage beatdown to William Regal in order to continue a burgeoning feud with Samoa Joe.
