WWE Legend Says He Viewed High Star Ratings As "A Negative"
Dave Meltzer's star ratings didn't do much for this former WWE man when he was wrestling.
Jeff Jarrett claims he always viewed "high star ratings" as "a negative" during his in-ring career.
The WWE Hall Of Famer, speaking via his 'My World' podcast, said Dave Meltzer's divisive quality scale ensures wrestling matches are "viewed as much more of a performance as opposed to capturing emotion". Jarrett, apparently, was much more into the thought of evoking an emotional response from crowds than entering a silky-smooth performance.
Of course, he also wanted to be technically solid too.
Jeff isn't a fan of fans chanting, "This Is Awesome" either. He understands why people do it, and knows the gig is obviously up as far as pretending that pro wrestling is legit, but views the chant as a "little display of get-togetherness" - it's a sure sign that fans aren't properly invested, basically.
Meltzer's star ratings have always been a Marmite topic. Some folks live and die by them, whereas others think it's one of the worst metrics one could use to judge a bout's success. Love or hate it though, there's no denying that Dave's system is useful when exploring some of the best wrestling ever.
Jarrett isn't a fan.
