Of course, the fact that Money in the Bank will be taking place in St. Louis could put something of a spanner in the works. As the hometown of Orton, there’s a very real risk of a win for Mahal causing the crowd to turn and if the match goes on last, then there’s a chance that the prevailing memory of the entire show—and by association, Mahal’s run—becoming an overly negative one.

Obviously, as a heel, you want Mahal to be booed, but there’s a very fine line between being booed for being a bad guy and for disappointing the fans to the point that they don’t want to tune in anymore.

In the interest of avoiding another negative backlash to a push that’s already proved somewhat controversial, it’s probably advisable to avoid putting Orton vs. Mahal on last.

Granted, the crowd could still turn on the match whenever it takes place, but if the star-studded men’s Money in the Bank ladder match were to close out the evening instead, it’s hard to imagine the fans staying mad throughout that one.
