WWE Network Adds "Raw Attitude Era" Section

You can now watch the whole of Raw 1998 on the Network.

The WWE Network has been a great resource for wrestling fans looking forward to checking out older content that they otherwise wouldn't have been able to see. When WWE Network launched last February the big selling point was that live PPVs were much cheaper thanks to the $9.99 monthly price and also the PPV archive included every WWE PPV. However, there were still things missing like some of the best Raw episodes from WWE's greatest period, the Attitude Era. It's great news today to see that WWE Network has added a "Raw Attitude Era" section. If you have the full on demand library, click on Shows, then In Ring and then you'll find Raw Attitude Era right there. The update includes every episode of Raw from December 15, 1997 to January 4, 1999. It's basically a little more than a full year of WWE's first official year of what they billed as the Attitude Era. If you click on the years you can see the content from each particular year that has been uploaded. As most wrestling fans know, the Attitude Era was WWE's most successful period thanks to the rise of stars like Steve Austin, The Rock, Triple H, Mick Foley with three different characters, Kane and of course legends like Shawn Michaels (injured in 1998 post WrestleMania) and The Undertaker. It was also the period where WWE featured a more risque product where they pushed sexual content, aggressive language and a lot of violent matches too. It was an edgy product that helped make wrestling (or sports entertainment) as popular as ever. If you were watching during this period it's the kind of thing we can look back on nearly 20 years later and re-watch with a smile because it brings us back to when the WWE product really was fresh. You just never know what Stone Cold might do or what The Rock might say, not to mention the hijinks of WWE's owner Vince McMahon, who was arguably the best heel ever during that period. There was so much talent on the roster. Some people may not like all of the work that guys like Vince Russo and Ed Ferrara did in their careers writing about wrestling, but they were definitely at their best when they were there to guide the ship with McMahon. The January 4, 1999 episode that is the last one they uploaded was famous because it was a taped show that was the night when Mick Foley won the WWE Title for the first time. They spoiled the result on WCW Monday Nitro, a lot of people flipped over to Raw to watch it and Nitro never really recovered from that. Here is Vince McMahon's Attitude Era promo was December 15, 1997: https://youtu.be/TfzvWEJEM94 Some people like to think the Attitude Era started earlier than that with the Hart/Austin feud earlier that year, but Vince's promo is what many consider the official start because that's when WWE really started to push the "Attitude Era" term on all their shows. There's been no announcement about when more content will be added in that section, but hopefully it's not too long until they update content from 1999, 2000 and 2001 as well. WWE should make a point to mention this on Raw tonight as well as on their website so that fans are aware about the addition of this content.
