WWE Newcastle Live Review - 9 Interesting Observations

9. Big Show Was Unhappy With The Cage

The steel cage match ended up being a bit of a disaster. It wasn't your typical cage descending from the arena roof, but instead a cage which was manually assembled at ringside by stage hands. This necessitated an awkward intermission. Many fans went to the bar or loos, which meant that many seats remained empty for the entrances and early going of the match. As a result the atmosphere was very flat for what should have been a charged excitement of seeing two giant men battle in a cage. Kane and Show locked up to the sound of silence. Worse than that was the loose rigging of the cage. A mere touch of the metal and it would bulge outwards. You genuinely felt that if Show was to really throw Kane against it then the cage would end up collapsing out on to the audience. As a result of this inferior rigging we had the match wrestled in slow motion, both men were obviously running the ropes with minimal force in order to protect the cage. Referee Charles Robinson was also at ringside holding the cage up whenever a big spot occurred. It looked like all of this bothered Big Show. Between the lack of reaction and the dangers of the loose cage it must have been frustrating. He beat Kane by escaping the cage with the KO punch, and then he walked straight to the curtain without looking back. One other observation, Big Show looked considerably slower than even a year ago. He stumbled a bit and took his time to stand back up after knock downs. A couple of big bumps looked tough for him to take. With all the money he has made, he really doesn't need this sort of physical hassle. Still, he remains an impressive sight in the flesh, a genuine giant man.
