Another Long-Time AEW Star Requested Their Release Not So Long Ago (AEW News)
Tay Melo asked for her AEW release last year.
With plentiful rumblings this week that Sammy Guevara could be on his way out of AEW, there's now an update on Sammy's wife, Tay Melo.
Per Bryan Alvarez of f4wonline, Tay requested her AEW release at some point in 2025, but that request was rejected. As for Guevara, Alvarez notes that nobody in AEW "seems to know what's up" with the Spanish God right now, but there's a belief that more will become known at tonight's Dynamite taping.
On Sammy Guevara, the former three-time AEW TNT Champion and former three-time ROH Tag Team Champion caused waves earlier this week by posting "new bio" on X. Upon taking a look at that new bio, Sammy had removed all mention of AEW, sparking speculation that he had left, or was on his way out of, AEW.
An AEW Original, Guevara debuted for Tony Khan's promotion on its inaugural event, Double or Nothing 2019, where he lost to Kip Sabian. He also has the distinction of being in the first-ever match of the first-ever AEW Dynamite, losing to Cody Rhodes on that night. Of course, Sammy was also named as one of the company's "pillars" alongside MJF, Darby Allin, and Jack Perry. And while MJF and Darby have both held the AEW World Championship, and Perry remains a regular presence on AEW TV, it's been a strange few years for Guevara in recent times, largely being confined to Ring of Honor, as highlighted by the fact that he's only wrestled three AEW matches in 2026 so far.
So, with Tay Melo requesting her release last year, and with Sammy Guevara now removing mentions of AEW from his X account, this is certainly a situation to keep an eye on - all as AEW gears up for its Redemption PPV this weekend.
