WWE Night Of Champions 2025: 7 Nightmares That Could Come True

6. JC Mateo Replaces “Injured” Solo Sikoa

If Jacob Fatu vs. Solo Sikoa does go ahead after all, then there's a solid chance it'll end via screwy means so the ex-New Bloodline buddies can get to a follow up match come SummerSlam. In this writer's opinion, Solo should actually win the United States Title thanks to a debuting Hikuleo, then Fatu can exact revenge in early-August inside a steel cage (or something like that).

Why not? Solo has experience of working stellar cage bouts. His one vs. Cody Rhodes on the 13 September 2024 episode of SmackDown was a lot of fun. There is, however, another outcome that'd be less satisfying.

Solo could do his best Jerry Lawler at SummerSlam 1993 by pretending to be injured. He'd choose to send bodyguard JC Mateo into the ring instead, which would lead to Fatu whipping Jeff Cobb for the victory. That sounds...crap. It might be fine enough for a random episode of TV, but WWE has already built towards Jacob vs. Solo. If they're going to sub anybody in, then it'd need to be an upgrade not a downgrade.

That might sound far too harsh on Mateo, but it's fair to say he hasn't exactly been tearing it up since joining the company and replacing Fatu by Sikoa's side. Subbing him in for Solo on the night would be one way around postponing the real match people want to see for that US belt, but it'd also lead to questions about why the match didn't just happen on SmackDown the night before instead.

Please no.
