Raw GM Adam Pearce told AJ Styles that his planned Intercontinental Title crack at reigning champ Dominik Mysterio had been cancelled during a backstage skit on Monday's flagship. Originally, the pair were scheduled to battle for the secondary strap at Night Of Champions over in Saudi Arabia, but Pearce said that Dominik had suffered an undisclosed injury and thus wouldn't be able to make it.

This prompted a funny response from AJ: "What did he do? Strain his mustache?!".

Pearce then promised that Styles would indeed get a shot at the IC Title as soon as Mysterio returns to action. There's no word quite yet on exactly what has happened to Dominik - it's also unclear whether or not the injury is legit or kayfabe. Some online have even speculated that someone involved in the bout perhaps didn't feel comfortable about travelling to Saudi for NOC.

However, recent news regarding the lack of extra added financial incentives for those dates and the fact they're now locked into WWE talent contracts as expected fulfillments pours cold water on that theory for now.

Dropping a match like Dominik vs. AJ will be a loss to the Night Of Champions lineup. Fans there live for the show will still be looking forward to blockbuster bouts like John Cena vs. CM Punk, Jacob Fatu vs. Solo Sikoa and the conclusion of both the King and Queen Of The Ring tournaments.
