WWE Night Of Champions: 21 Things You Might Have Missed

15. "Referee, My Elbow"

Kevin Owens vs Ryback kicked off the main show and it was a well-fought contest. It wasn't one of the flashier bouts that fans of Owens are used to seeing, but it was refreshing to see that he could work a slower, more methodical style. He targeted the elbow of Ryback throughout, and it became the focal point around which the match narrative revolved. The commentators were more than capable of conveying this to the audience at home, but Ryback, ever-concerned about clarity, decided to say something really dumb right when a camera was pressed close to his face. He moaned in pain before saying, loud and clear, and like a child who'd fallen in the playground: "Referee, my elbow!!" Now I'm aware that there's a reason why he's not known as Professor Ryback, but really tickled me just how dumb and child-like he sounded when saying it. What was Ryback trying to convey to the referee? Did he want the referee to kiss his elbow better?
