The show was called No Mercy for more than one reason, apparently. Not only were the WWE superstars going to brutalise one another without compassion, but it was also an exercise in Vince McMahon punishing a fanbase that just can't bring themselves to say "enough is enough".

The final three matches on the card all committed some unforgivable sins, undermining the show's enjoyable first half and again proving how little respect WWE has for the audience. It's not that the wrong people won (though it is kinda), but how poorly it was all executed.
