WWE NXT In Lowell - 10 Live Observations
6. Chris Girard Is More Than Just Another Enhancement Talent
Anyone who isn't already familiar with the former Biff Busick, should be. Now known as Christopher Girard, he was signed to a developmental deal by WWE late last year and has made a minimal amount of appearances on NXT TV in recent months. A Boston native, he returned home to Lowell on Thursday night when he went one-on-one with Tomasso Ciampa.
Going in, I was fully expecting a standard squash match with Ciampa decisively defeating Girard in a matter of minutes, but what we received instead was an absolute treat. Most of the fans in attendance knew of Busick's background, so he was the fan favorite against Ciampa. Every time Ciampa nailed Girard with what looked like a finishing maneuver, he would power out of the pinfall, earning the audience's respect in the process.
This was my first time seeing Girard compete in person, and he is an exceptional in-ring competitor. His upset win over Ciampa was simply an added bonus, and Ciampa showing him respect afterward was a tremendous touch. While Girard has largely been utilized as an enhancement talent thus far in his NXT run, he is deserving of a higher spot on the card if his showing at this event was any indication of what he's capable of.
