NXT kicked off their first ever UK tour with a bumper card tearing it up inside Newcastle's Metro Radio Area. Given that WhatCulture towers are based in Newcastle, where better to start your first ever tour of a foreign land? The Geordie nation are renowned for being the most vociferous football (soccer to you Americans) supporters in England and this always translates into a wrestling arena. The crowd certainly did their part - while the action in the ring was turned up a notch or two compared to your run of the mill house show. 10. NXT Isn't Quite As Big As We All Thought
Last night was a historical night for NXT. The Newcastle show was the brand's first ever in England, Sami Zayn was making his comeback from a lengthy layoff, and everyone in attendance knew that home town hero Neville was coming home. I was expecting a bumper crowd. Sadly, this wasn't the case. The 11,000 capacity Metro Radio Arena was barely half full. Large patches of green seating could be seen all over the place, while the back seven or eight rows were covered with tarp. Still, in terms of NXT this has to be one of the bigger crowds the roster has ever competed in front of. A lot was made of the 5000 seater they managed to sell out in California the week leading up to WrestleMania, and Newcastle couldn't have been far off that. Maybe I'm being a bit too harsh considering the London Takeover Special is completely sold out. This was only a live event after all...
