WWE NXT's 31 Wrestlers - Ranked From Worst To Best
22. Alex Riley
Pros:
1. Previous main roster experience
2. Has the prototypical WWE "main event build"
3. Has worked as wrestler, commentator, and manager
Cons:
1. Is not really very good at wrestling, commentating, or managing
2. His offensive style is somewhat out of place in today's NXT
3. The RILEY RAGE thing is just kind of sad
After a disappointing main roster run, Alex Riley was sent back to developmental as a commentator, which was basically WWE trying to tell him he was a bad wrestler as gently as possible. He's tried to convince the world that he's on the verge of some big, Tyson Kidd-style career revival in NXT, but it doesn't seem likely. He's tried to use social media to make his "Riley Rage" thing a trend to get the support of the sort of fans who rallied behind Zack Ryder and Daniel Bryan, but it's not working. Alex Riley is not what the NXT fanbase wants to see.
Riley is a relic of the pre-NXT developmental system, a semi-tall, semi-muscular white guy with a neckbreaker finish. He's a poor fit in today's dynamic, indy-influenced NXT. He's able to look okay throwing clotheslines at Kevin Owens, but what happens when this guy has to keep up with Hideo Itami or Sami Zayn?
Final rating: **1/2
