Could the deleted star be set for a surprise NXT tilt?

WWE could be on the verge of offering Matt Hardy a role in NXT in an attempt at convincing the veteran to sign a new deal with the promotion.

This is according to PWInsider's Mike Johnson. He stated on a recent episode of his site's Elite audio show that WWE had "made a lot of overtures to [Hardy] in the last couple of weeks," and that "there has been some talk of him working in the NXT system somehow."

Johnson added that his gut was telling him Matt will end up staying with WWE.

As has been previously reported, Hardy's current deal with the promotion finishes on 1 March. He was seemingly written off of Raw after Randy Orton destroyed him across two consecutive weeks, though it sounds like Vince McMahon and co. are keen to keep him around, hence the ongoing negotiations.

Hardy has regularly teased his own departure over the past few months. Recent weeks have seen him installed as a favourite to jump to AEW and potentially become The Dark Order's 'Exalted One,' though there's every chance that Matt has been working everybody by hinting at this on his social media accounts.
