3. Intercontinental Title: Bad News Barrett Vs Rob Van Dam
Rob Van Dam won the right to face Bad News Barrett by getting the fastest time in a 'beat the clock' challenge. That's a storyline WWE like to roll out now and again, but it's hardly the best way to build interest, it basically says that RVD is a default challenger based on a match time. Proper feuds are built on personal clashes, not the amount of time someone won a match in. It's yet another match on the Payback card which seems underdeveloped and weakens the overall interest in the event. Again though, it'll probably be a decent watch for what it's worth. Van Dam is timelessly good and Barrett is a great brawler, they can put on a nice mixture of spots, one the one hand you have the high flyer, on the other hand the hard hitter. That could prove an entertaining dynamic for proceedings, with a major finish spot in which Barrett hits the Bullhammer elbow on a mid-frogsplashing Van Dam. That'd be a cool visual and contribute further to Barrett's progression as a genuine star. Winner: Bad News Barrett
