Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson might be out of the WrestleMania 38 picture, but it looks like WWE is trying to secure its other game-changing Attitude Era legend for next year's big event.

Per WrestleVotes, multiple WWE sources have indicated that the promotion wants to have 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin at the show. While he wouldn't be wrestling, the 57-year-old would play a "meaningful" role at 'Mania, depending on what creative come up for him:-

Talked to a few different source this weekend & heard the same thing, WWE is very interested in having Steve Austin as a part of WrestleMania this year in Dallas. Not in a wrestling role, but a meaningful part of the event outside of just appearing. Up to creative at this point.

WrestleMania 38 will play out across two nights for the third consecutive year, hitting Arlington, Texas on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 April 2022. Depending on the global situation, it could end up being the first WrestleMania unhindered by COVID-19 related ticketing restrictions since 'Mania 35 in 2019.

Austin's WWE appearances always guarantee a big pop - and doubly so when he is in his home state of Texas. That WWE would want him to appear at any big show in the state, let alone 'Mania, is no great surprise.

'Stone Cold' last appeared for WWE on the first pandemic era Raw (16 March 2020). A celebration of '3:16' Day, that episode saw Byron Saxton, Angelo Dawkins, and Montez Ford all take Stone Cold Stunners.
