WWE Planning New Movie About Mae Young
The Hall Of Famer will be portrayed as the "Babe Ruth of wrestling."
It has been a newsworthy couple of weeks for WWE superstars on the silver screen, with Sheamus and Randy Orton both landing new movie roles in the past 10 days. Now, there's word of a new WWE film project on the horizon, with eWrestlingNews.com reporting that the company are planning a movie about Hall Of Famer Mae Young.
This is reportedly the reason why WWE's upcoming women's tournament was named after her, and why Young has been pushed so heavily as a pioneering figure leading up to the event. According to the write-up, the film will establish Mae as the "Babe Ruth of women's wrestling."
Starting her career in 1939, Young made her name competing across the United States and Canada, and became the first NWA United States Women's Champion in 1968. She forged a close affiliation with fellow WWE Hall Of Famer The Fabulous Moolah early in her career, and the duo became a double act upon Mae's debut with the company in 1999.
Her last WWE appearance came in March 2013, when a group of wrestlers helped celebrate her 90th birthday on 'Old School Raw.' Sadly, Young passed away in January 2014.
