WWE: Ranking The Rock's 10 WrestleMania Matches - From Worst To Best

4. WM20 2004 w/Foley vs. Flair, Orton & Batista

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpURgZSP2kQ It's rare that a 2 on 3 handicap match can be considered awesome, but this one was. Foley wasn't a full timer at this point although he was feuding with Randy Orton for several months going into this one. He had a tough time dealing with Orton's Evolution buddies Flair & Batista, so The Rock (who was a few years into his movie career at this point) returned to team up with Foley in a 2 on 3 handicap match. My favorite part of the match was when Rock got to lock up with Flair. It's a shame that they didn't have a singles match at WrestleMania because they're two of the best talkers ever and two guys that were very charismatic as well. They had their moments in this one, though, so I'm glad we were able to see that. If you looked at this match before the show then you would think the right thing to do would be to put over the team with the younger guys (Orton & Batista) because they had to come out of it looking like stars. That's exactly what happened as Orton pinned Foley clean with the RKO. I loved the pacing of the match. It was nearly 20 minutes of fast paced action. There were two hot tag sequences. There were no pointless rest hold spots. The crowd was loud during the majority of it because it was a good mix of legends along with two young guys that were on the rise. I think it's more valuable to have the legends mix it up with younger guys because then the younger ones get the "rub" from it. A year later Batista was in the main event of WrestleMania and Orton went on to be World Champ five months after this match. This was the Rock's last match in WWE for eight years. We didn't know it at the time, but we sure missed him when he was gone. It's interesting to note that Rock made his 8th WrestleMania appearance at this event and Cena made his first WrestleMania appearance at the same show. Eight years later they had their first match.
