WWE Raw General Manager Countdown #10 - John Laurinaitis
Shortly following his appointment of Interim GM both Laurintaitis and Punk would take an exception to each other, Punk continually mocked Raw's General Manager while Johnny attempted to make the Champions life a living hell. The pair verbally fought for a few weeks with Laurinaitis attempting by all means necessary to relieve Punk of his title, but it was to no avail. Unfortunately the feud never really reached the desired McMahon vs Austin pinnacle that had been expected. He soon relinquished his authoritative grip on the straight edged star and directed his attention elsewhere, mainly due to the fact that the Board of Directors had put him under review as they believed he was abusing his power. It was only the arrival of The Undertaker who had shown up to challenge Triple H during Laurinaitis's performance evaluation and was ultimately about to fire him, was he saved from his inevitable fate. Now that the COO's attention was distracted elsewhere, Johnny yet again was on free reign and once again began getting power hungry in which his focus was now to add Smackdown to his repertoire. After Johnny's team beat Teddy's at Wrestlemania, John Laurinaitis was now fully in control of both brands. People Power was in full swing and Laurinaitis was determined to steer the ship to success. Having clashed with various superstars along the way he ultimately met his match with John Cena, when Brock Lesnar was unable to get the job done he attempted to rectify the problem called Cena himself, going one on one with him at Extreme Rules. Unfortunately for Ace the Board of Directors felt that the match should be just that, one on one and declared any outside interference from talent under WWE contract would be subsequently fired. The ex-wrestler put up little fight and had his ass kicked and embarrassed by Cena throughout. But then Big Show, the man Laurinaitis had broken down into a blubbering mess on Raw previous, humiliating and firing the giant, had struck a deal with Big Johnny and came to his rescue. The pasting Laurinaitis had received at the Pay Per View resulted in the GM being confined to a mobility scooter and crutches, he sought payback again at the hands of the Big Show. Unfortunately Big Johnny had gotten to big for his boots and after Mr McMahon reviewed his position declared that a bout between Big Show and John Cena would take place, a match which inevitably sealed his fate. On the 17th of June, at the No Way Out pay per view, John Laurinaitis was wished the best in his endeavors by Vince McMahon. In Brief: Whilst the era of People Power was only a few months, John Laurinitis will be remembered for his often imitated yet difficult to understand voice, his cheesy smile and determination to give the fans what they want... or not. Did Big Johnny have his flaws? Yes, but but then that was just another wrinkle to the character. Possibly not the greatest promo cutter the wrestling world has ever heard, but then stepping from the office back to the ring is a big leap and some argued that his hesitant, stuttering voice only leant to the fact that he was an official rather than a performer. Here CM Punk leads the WWE Universe in song and praise Johnny Ace http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ok2qGH63O_0 Agree in Big Johhny making the top ten? Completely disagree? We'd love to hear your thoughts. Stay tuned for number nine in our list.
