WWE Raw General Manager Countdown #9 - Shawn Michaels
Whilst making sporadic appearances, mainly due to the fact that he had undergone surgery for his injured back, Shawn always got the heroes welcome. His final duties as Commissioner came at Judgement Day 2000. HBK had scheduled an Iron Man match between the feuding Rock and Triple H and inserted himself into the match as the Special Guest Referee. Shawn claimed he would call the match right down the middle, while many questioned his allegiances to The Game. Although Shawn stood by his decision it was Triple H who reigned victorious as the Undertaker had returned and in the climax of the last seconds, Michaels had gotten up from a bump he had taken just in time to see the dead man assault his former team mate, thus forcing his hand. A month later Shawn Michaels would give up his position as the Commissioner to none other than Mick Foley. Michaels would throughout his position draw heat from his fellow wrestlers, overriding decisions, rules, matches and booking events the way he saw fit. During his two year tendency the Heart Break Kid would play a less prominent role than today's GM but in this case less was indeed more. When Shawn did appear and strut his stuff, he did so to great reaction and in return wouldn't let the fans down. Whether playing the villain, dismaying fans and siding with the likes of the Corporation or being Mr nice guy, ensuring the rules are fair and making the crowd pleasing decisions. Shawn Michaels always lit up the arena, regardless of the position he was playing.
