WWE Raw Records Second Lowest Rating Of The Year

Baron Corbin in "not a draw" shocker.

A main event pitting Baron Corbin against AJ Styles was surprisingly not enough to convince Raw viewings to stick around this week, as the show's viewership slumped to its second lowest figure of the year [Source: Wrestling Observer].

This week's episode attracted 2.374 million pairs of eyes, down on last week's Superstar Shake-Up episode by just under 300,000 viewers, and only marginally above the 2.324 million who tuned in the 7 January edition.

As has been the general trend with Raw for some time, the third hour saw a significant drop-off, plunging from 2.680 million in hour one to 2.146 million - a decrease of half a million viewers before the show concluded.

For those who didn't know already, this is the latest piece of evidence suggesting Baron Corbin is not the answer WWE are looking for. That said, such is the extent of third-hour fatigue when it comes to Raw that Steve Austin and The Rock would probably struggle to retain the audience for 180 minutes.

Raw ended the night as the 6th most viewed show across all of cable television, topped by the NBA playoffs game between The Rockets and The Jazz.

Concerns over ratings within WWE HQ will have been exacerbated by these stats; it was the lowest number the show has ever recorded outside the football season.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
