WWE Reading Live Review: 10 Interesting Observations You Need To Know

10. Zack Ryder Is A Great Opening Match Wrestler

There is no denying that WWE officials did Zack Ryder a great disservice in 2011 and '12 with the way they booked him during the hottest streak of his career. And Long Island Iced Z has every right to be disappointed, dismayed and frustrated with the way he has been used since then. He has been relegated to jobber, the guy who gets demolished by bigger and more relevant stars when he does finally make it onto Raw or SmackDown. While that is unfortunate for someone of his skill, the truth is that he is a fantastic opening match act. Ryder is still incredibly over with the fans and was greeted with a loud pop as he stepped through the curtain for his match with Adam Rose. The former United States and tag team champion is extremely charismatic and features a move set full of crowd pleasing and signature moves. The Broski Boot, preceded by "Woo woo woo!" still draws a big reaction and the Rough Ryder is the type of finish that he can execute from any position, making it one of the more valuable ones on the roster. Throughout the Attitude Era, The Godfather was one of the most over stars on the roster for a number of reasons, making him a valuable asset as the opening match guy that pumped up the fans and set the stage for the rest of the card. Ryder fills that role perfectly. While it may not be where he envisioned himself, Ryder can take solace in knowing that stars such as Tito Santana, Jim Duggan and Koko B. Ware all entered the Hall of Fame after years spent filling that same role on the card. All he has to do is embrace it and continue working hard. The crowd will repay him with their continued support, like the fans in Reading did as he knocked off Rose in a solid opener.
